Marathon Training – Day 1

After being sick and then traveling to New York for a business conference my training for the Marathon of the Palm Beaches and Miami marathon haven’t exactly gotten off to a blazing start. Today I got out there. Like they say, all glory comes from daring to begin. I have to tell you it wasn’t easy. I went out when it was too hot, and it has been a few weeks since a long run, but whoa, the weather really kicked my ass. At least, that’s all I hoped it was.

I was only able to run for 46 minutes (a little over 5 miles) and the run almost killed me. After a little of that, even a half marathon seems daunting. I’ve resolved to get out early in the morning OR at night and not try to take on the baking sun. I’m also going to work on doing a modified version of my strength training that will focus on my upper body, since my lower body will get more than enough training from the added running.

I think that my eating and general diet will be critical to both my races and my training. I have no doubt that my eating a bunch of crap food last night had a lot to do with my lack of running energy when I ran at 11:30AM this morning. Garbage in – garbage out.
