Video Play
September 19th, 2009 — Charlie, John, Julia, Kids, Max, Video, vlog
John and Julia hosted a play when Max and Charlie were here. It was a big hit with the family. They watched the video over and over again. Recently, I thought it would be fun to film their reactions to watching their movie about a month post recording. They haven’t lost their affinity for it and even recorded a new movie today with a slight variation.
John and Julia’s First Photos
December 1st, 2008 — Blogs, Family, Hobbies, John, Julia, Photography
Don’t you wish you had the first photos you ever took?
Not long back, John got hold of our Family Digicam and went to town snapping pictures of just about everything. I didn’t put him up to it at all. As you’d imagine there were a lot of unusable photos. There were also a lot of photos that got some of the basics right and some that even captured something special. Best of all, they all represent a unique perspective – that of a child and a first-ever photographer. My Favorite of John’s photos are the portraits of Charlie playing his guitar this summer. How cool! I tried to only delete photos that were blank or completely out of focus.
Just in the last month Julia picked the camera up and did the very same thing and with very similar results. My favorite of Julia’s is her self portrait close-up of her face.

Julia’s un-birthday Party
April 29th, 2008 — Julia, Kids
With mum away on business in Chicago and our family otherwise scattered to the wind Julia’s official 4th birthday went off without a hitch. Grandpa Lorenz bought Julia a new birthday dress (shown in video below) and we got her a Princess art kit with various coloring and painting utensils of destruction. For dinner Julia had her favorite pasta (that would be Penne with Four Cheese sauce “No Cheese Daddy”) and we followed that up with some splendid cup cakes which were enjoyed by our Birthday Girl, John, Grandpa Lorenz and yours truly.
Later this week on Wednesday we’ll have her play school party with 12-15 of her class mates and then her official family birthday party with more cake, family fun and presents. We wish all of you could be here.
Here’s a quick video of us singing Julia in to her 4th year.

Church bells ringing
July 20th, 2006 — Family, Golf, John, Journal, Julia, Kids
The church bells rang out at 10 this morning at St. Ann’s Catholic School. Julia, John and I are at our new park (Jose Marti Park) on the Intracoastal, which is adjacent to St. Ann’s. We’re moved from Welly World, we’re far from unpacked but today feels like it could be a regular day and that feels like a good thing.
Today, we’ll watch The Open on TNT, we’ll unpack a skosh and we’ll whip up a killah web site for Rob’s hurricane window business. At least, I’ll move it along to the next level. The winds are up today at the Beach and the prevailing wind is uncharacteristically cool. Sitting outside without benefit of a shade tree at this time of year is akin to suicide but today it’s NOT. It’s lovely.
Mum and Neil have shuffled off to Copenhagen and left behind them a wake of Muesli and Tea. The house is different without them of course and we will miss them both. It was a nice visit and I’m so glad that all my kids and Shannon got a chance to be around them and vice versa. I’ll upload some pics from the visit shortly but for now time is too short for photo editing and the like. What are some of the highlights? Watching the Space Shuttle launch from Cape Canaveral on July 4th as we cooked hot dogs on the bar-b-q. That one we’re sure to remember.
John and Julia – They look Mahvalous!

This is what happens when a Man watches the kids. To be fair, I didn’t dress them this way. I just LEFT them this way after they dressed themselves. Hey, it’s functional.

Curious Julsie
February 24th, 2006 — Family, John, Julia, Kids, Noteworthy
Took John and Julia to see Curious George tonight. It was
Julia’s first movie and I think she liked it. I was surprised that she was as restless as she was – she probably lasted about 40 minutes before she was ready to be done. John got a little restless at times but I think it was more about him being used to standing up and moving around the house then being bored with the movie itself. Shannon and I both liked the movie a lot. The colors were magnificent! Story was simple and nice as a kids movie should be. It seems like there is plenty of room in the market for great movies like The Incredibles and Shrek as well as 2-D low tech but high art, well storied movies like George. Good on ya George.
