Area Code

The phone is ringin’
in the other room
babies crying and my baby she’s lying
right here next to me
for the longest time
I watch her breathe
and forget where I’ve been
I’m just tryin’ to find my way back
to somethin’ I could have been
so I may rest in peace a time

– Chorus –

There’s no use cryin’
for what’s come and gone
or worries for the future
new day to come
sometimes I’m like a bill collector baby
I’ve got the right number but the wrong area code
It’s time to pack up and go
to places where
I don’t know

One step that’s what they say it takes
a man they say is what it makes
step out the door
and off the curb
wild blue yonder that’s
where I’ll be
some are born to follow
and they go along
others born to lead so GO
I’m just born to wonder you know
how ’bout you – which way do you go

– Chorus –

There’s no use cryin’
for what’s come and gone
or worries for the future
new day to come
sometimes I’m like a bill collector baby
I’ve got the right number but the wrong area code
It’s time to pack up and go
to places where
I don’t know

Will you come with me
I want u 2
trod along beside me 2 x 2
smile and laugh and cry sometimes
we got some livin’ me and you
let’s leave some markers
along the way
light some fires
give ‘em something to say
’bout the ones that passed by
hearts thumpin’ in the night
smilin’ eyes sayin’ something
to each and every
man – woman – child

– Chorus –

There’s no use cryin’
for what’s come and gone
or worries for the future
new day to come
sometimes I’m like a bill collector baby
I’ve got the right number but the wrong area code
It’s time to pack up and go
to places where
I don’t know

each town and city
when they ask you now
’bout where you’re from
and where you’ve been
You smile and you give a laugh
you look ‘em in the eye and then you’re quiet a while
Me I say – I don’t know
I’ve been some places
that’s for sure
but I’m still lookin’ for where I’m from
maybe it’s here
maybe this is home

– Chorus –

There’s no use cryin’
for what’s come and gone
or worries for the future
new day to come
sometimes I’m like a bill collector baby
I’ve got the right number but the wrong area code
It’s time to pack up and go
to places where
I don’t know

For non-commercial purposes I say go ahead. And for commercial purposes I say let’s talk. How about collaborating to make a better song lyric or adding some music?. Not long after I put this up my father made the very good point that many wonderful artists have collaborated with one writing the lyrics and the other penning the notes. I can’t write music because I have not learned to do so….yet. But maybe you have?
