Charlie Drops in off ramp

Charlie has taken four skate lessons now at the West Palm Beach Skate Park. He’s had a really good time and he reports learning lots of new tricks (three today alone). One big challenge for this series of lessons was getting comfortable on the medium size ramp. Hint: It only seems like a medium size ramp when you’re not standing on top of it. Charlie tried four different times today to drop in and just couldn’t clear his head enough to do it. Then some fellow skaters showed up and dropped in and all of a sudden it wasn’t so hard. He quickly followed suit. Charlie then rattled off 5 drop ins like a pro without a bobble. Good on ya Charlie – I’m so proud of you! Enjoy the video.

John and Julia – Underpants Ninjas

John appeared from around a corder the other day with quite an outfit on. Soon, Julia had followed in suit. Enjoy.

What’s in a name you ask? Just your whole life!

On the way to Lion Country Safari with Charlie, John and Julia a couple of weeks ago we amused ourselves by making videos in the truck. Enjoy.

British Airways 747 emergency landing at Palm Beach International Airport?

Airport travelers and local drivers in the West Palm Beach, Florida area were treated to a strange and puzzling site on Sunday afternoon at Palm Beach International Airport (PBI). There, on one of the runways sat a British Airways 747. British Airways doesn’t fly to Palm Beach International and to my knowledge 747 Jumbo Jet’s don’t land here.

Shortly after 5PM EST we were driving our car east bound along Southern Boulevard which runs parallel with the main PBI runway. That’s when I noticed the 747 – it’s distinctive mass and overpowering size dwarfing the regularly sized planes. Then I noticed the fire truck and emergency vehicles surrounding the plane. Something caused that plane to land where it wasn’t supposed to land. It appeared from our distance that the 747 was in normal condition – the reason for the landing not apparent. We can hope that nothing more than frayed nerves befell the passengers.

We turned on the local radio in the car while the plane was still in sight as we drove past. No news that we could find anywhere. We arrived home and went to the Internet. We pulled up the local newspaper site, The Palm Beach Post. Nothing. We searched local T.V. stations as well – nothing that we can find anywhere on the story.

It’s been hours since we saw this and NONE of the three major newspapers are reporting ANY story. Nothing is reported on British Airways site that I can find either. Nothing on any of the local news network sites such as Topix.net. Nothing on big news aggregators like CNN or Google. It’s as if it didn’t happen. You might wonder if this Sunday was an especially busy news day here in West Palm Beach but it’s not. Most of the stories that are running I recognize from two days ago.

It all just strikes me as amazing that something so out of the ordinary wouldn’t even garner the smallest of headlines for businesses whose business it is to report local, state and national news. It strikes me as a bit pathetic.

NYC Walk 08:30 PM

I was in New York again this week, spending Monday night there. I went out for a walk in the evening and it was a splendid night. 64 degrees and just the occasional rain drop, remnants from the day long rain that passed through during the day.

My walk around New York City. The weather that evening was in the low 60's – a perfect retreat from a Florida summer.

I had a great meal at Luna Piena at 253 E 53rd Street between 2nd and 3rd. Amazing, truly authentic Italian food. Not to be missed if you're a carb whore like me.

Run 08:34 PM

First run with my replacement phone. The Samsung upstage died due to a run in the rain. Plus, it was completely unreliable from a gps standpoint. I purchased the LG Musiq or LG 570 from Sprint yesterday on the advice of Bim Active. They gave it top billing for gps reliability and accuracy for all the current Sprint phones. The Sanyo models ranked 2nd and 3rd in their top 3 so they are good units as well.

First long run with my new phone – the LG Musiq or LG 570. I ran last night for 3 miles but unfortunately the BIM Active application disappeared at some point. I was switching back and forth between the music player on the phone and Bim active so perhaps I hit a button that ended the run by accident. It didn't prompt me, I know that much! This run I just kept the phone lid closed and didn't use the music player and it worked great.

Run 10:35 PM

I decided today to go on a running steak. My goal is to run every day – no matter what. At least one mile and I must run – not just jog. I went yesterday for 2.3 miles in the rain (no matter what) but my GPS phone didn’t work with BIM so this will serve as a record. I’m at two days. :-)

Longboarding on the 4th of July

Here’s a video of my son Charlie and I longboarding around West Palm Beach and Palm Beach on the 4th of July.

Run 09:28 AM

This was a truly sad performance. It was terribly hot and humid and my energy peaked at mile one and just got worse from there. I had to actually walk at two different points of the ‘run’ which for me is extremely unusual.
